Brief Description

This workplace module builds on YSP133. Learners will be required to demonstrate the ability to use the approaches to planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating their practice with young people appropriate to their specialism. This may be in a role in which they are supporting a professionally qualified worker. They will also need to demonstrate partnership working with other organisations and young people. Competence is demonstrated against selected National Occupational Standards and will be supported in practice by a Fieldwork Supervisor.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

  • the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate work with young people in an area of specialism, possibly under supervision;
  • the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to the achievement of organisationally required outcomes including ECM;
  • the consistent application of ethical frameworks including equal opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice to a range of settings.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module students should be able to:
a) Plan implement and evaluate activities with and for young people in collaboration with others;
b) Analyse methods for achieving the five outcomes of ECM and those of their Service alongside the personal social and spiritual development of young people and their health and wellbeing under the supervision of others.



ii. Skills
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) Participate in the designing, planning, preparation, facilitation and evaluation of work with young people;
b) Encourage young people to be active citizens able to tackle problems, understand risk and challenge;
c) Ensure that work complies with legal, regulatory and ethical requirements including safeguarding.

Learning and Teaching Activities

Staff / student contact: 10% (Fieldwork Supervisor)
Fieldwork practice: 60%
Student directed learning: 30%
