Pre-requisites Before taking this module you must pass 30 credits from YIP133 or ( pass 15 credits from YIP134 and pass 15 credits from YIP135 ) and pass 30 credits from YIP233 or ( pass 15 credits from YIP234 and pass 15 credits from YIP235 )

Brief Description This workplace module builds on YIP233. Learners will be required to demonstrate the ability to take a leadership initiative in a workplace for young people and to demonstrate application of theory and practice wisdom to their workplace role. Competence is demonstrated against selected National Occupational Standards and will be supported in practice by a Fieldwork Supervisor.
Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

  • leadership theory;
  • project management.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module students should be able to:

a) Critically analyse the major theories of leadership and workplace practice in a specialised area;
b) Apply the principles of project management and development including those of resource allocation;



ii. Skills
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:

a) Develop productive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and stakeholders;
b) Manage self, time and professional development as a leader.

Learning and Teaching Activities

Staff / student contact: 10% (Fieldwork Supervisor)
Fieldwork practice: 60%
Student directed learning: 30%
