Brief Description

The module enables students to pursue an area of academic interest related to their practice through the development of an individual programme of study negotiated with an appropriate tutor with some expertise in the area.

Indicative Syllabus

Research or evaluation of an area of particular interest within the remit of integrated services for young people arising out of their personal or professional development.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the students should be able to:
a) Critically evaluate research findings in a selected area of study;
b) Critically reflect upon the relevance of the findings to practice.



ii. Skills
On successful completion of the module the students should be able to:
a) Select and justify a relevant area of study;
b) Formulate key questions;
c) Plan and negotiate an appropriate programme of study;
d) Sustain independent study and self-evaluation;
e) Use initiative in establishing organisational, national and/or international links;
f) Reflect on practice in the light of new experience;
g) Demonstrate the ability to conduct further literature searching;
h) Propose innovative ideas or developments for practice.

Learning and Teaching Activities

Staff student contact circa 3.5 hrs (to include: individual tutorials, negotiated learning programme)
Student independent study circa 98% (to include: seminar presentation to student group, visits to external agencies)
