Brief Description

The aims of the module are to:

  1. To enable students to know and understand appropriate approaches to the planning and management of youth work, projects and personnel;
  2. To explore concepts of partnership and interagency work;
  3. To develop effective, efficient and ethical practice in youth work.
Indicative Syllabus This module will explore and analyse the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for the effective planning and management of youth and community work.
Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module students should be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding
a)  understand the nature of youth & community work in the statutory, voluntary and faith-based sectors
b)  understand and apply management theory and practice into their context
c)  analyse the strengths and weaknesses of partnership and interagency work and its relevance to their context
d)  understand and demonstrate effective, efficient and ethical practice

Disciplinary / Professional Skills
e)  use a wide range of management skills
f)   work effectively with staff and other agencies

Transferable Skills
g)  plan and file service development
h)  reflect on self as manager

Learning and Teaching Activities Staff / student contact: 10% (lectures, seminars, role play, exercises, simulations)
