Brief Description

The student will be introduced the practical aspects of commissioned, co-authored dramatic writing with special emphasis on place and community.

Indicative Syllabus

This module aims to enable the student to apply their dramatic writing skills practically in the context of community and industry. In the first semester, students will write individual dramatic works, considering the needs, interests and demographics of targeted audiences. In the second semester, students will embark on a collaborative writing project intended to increase the students’ understanding of industry working conditions and the benefits and pressures of commercial and community writing. 

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to

1.     apply dramatic writing conventions to a commissioned piece of theatre.

2.     work effectively in a team of writers.

3.     articulate and respond to the demands of the local community.

4.     develop and deploy skills in re-writing in response to advice from professionals, readers and theatres.

5.     undertake research in an efficient and critically aware way and to assimilate findings and deploy them coherently in a creative work.
