Brief Description | This practical module provides opportunity to broaden and extend parameters of practice through the application of a cross disciplinary approach to the resolution of a negotiated brief. Students will communicate an idea or message employing various disciplines, for example photography, graphic design, illustration, animation, achieving finished outcomes in each area. On completion students should have developed knowledge and understanding of the synergies and relationship between word/image/narrative/moving and still images. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module introduces a cross disciplinary approach to practical work. Students initially propose a subject or message which will provide the core theme for exploration and evaluation into ways in which it is transformed and changed when addressed through a series of practical outcomes achieved in different subject areas such as Illustration; Animation; Graphic Design; Photography. The presentation of the physical outcomes from each area may include a book, screen based images and moving image. Similarities such as the addressing of narrative, sequence, audience and the final presentation will recur through the rotation. Conversely more distinctive and particular issues of the different forms of visual representation such as moving image, scale of image, typography, layout, and multiple or single images will become apparent as the module progresses. The module should provide a challenging and stimulating experience and on completion an opportunity to reflect on a breadth of visual, intellectual, conceptual and technical skills acquired through the cross-disciplinary approach. |
