Brief Description The module provides students with the opportunity to focus on a specific area of interest by producing a self-managed, analytical, in-depth evaluation of a relevant issue or topic in the Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality courses.
Indicative Syllabus The dissertation (double) module is interpreted as a piece of sustained independent student work which meets the requirements of the honours component of the QAA Qualifications Framework and the Subject Benchmarking Statements. It provides the student with the opportunity to study a chosen and approved topic in depth and to draw on previous studies, including LSM203 Research Methods. Students will be able to pursue an empirical study, possibly with an applied focus, if they wish, but the opportunity will also be there to undertake a conceptual literature based study (in line with the approach of LSM203)
Learning Outcomes

i Knowledge and understanding
On completion of the module the students should be able to:
a) Demonstrate a critical knowledge and understanding of an area of particular interest within the appropriate field
b) Demonstrate research and investigative skills to enable them to select, understand, analyse, synthesise and evaluate information on a chosen topic.
c) Critically evaluate the practical application of academic knowledge and recognise its relevance for management practice.
d) Apply the concepts and techniques acquired throughout their programme of study.
e) Integrate the diverse elements of their programme.
