Brief Description This module highlights the development of international destinations in the context of globalisation and the interrelationship between local and global decision-making processes.
Indicative Syllabus Topics will include: analysis of the roles of local, national, regional and international stakeholders in destinations and their interrelationships; the power and politics of decision-making; the challenges of implementing tourism policy in the context of competing interests in international destinations; operational priorities of market entry for tourism intermediaries; the importance of local enterprise development; the dynamics between promotional priorities and quality management; priorities for government agencies in supporting the tourism development process; and the analysis and application of relevant sustainable tourism development strategies.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this module students should be able to:
a) Analyse and apply relevant destination development models in a variety of tourism settings
b) Analyse the tourism policy context in the development of international destinations
c) Assess and evaluate the importance and influence of a variety of local, national, regional and international stakeholders in relation to destination development
d) Analyse critical issues associated with the operation of tourism businesses at local level
e) Critically discuss a variety of approaches for managing conflicting interests in international destinations
