Brief Description | This module introduces students to the influences of culture on both organisations and their management style and also matters concerning consumer demand and behaviour. It highlights the significance of cultural protocol in the operation and management of businesses in the Leisure industries. |
Indicative Syllabus | Students will be introduced to the meaning of culture and identity generally, and in the context of the leisure industries. The module focuses on the value of capitalising on cultural diversity in organisations, service management and consumer buying behaviour in the context of social sustainability, for the benefit of professional and business development. The characteristics of different international cultures will be analysed in the context of globalisation, with the help of relevant theoretical models. Finally, students will be introduced to management strategies for promoting increased cultural consciousness, and reconciliation of cultural differences in organisations. |
Learning Outcomes | i Knowledge and Understanding a) Critically appreciate the implications of globalization for cultural diversity in the Leisure sectors b) Identify and theoretically justify the requirements of successful international business management in the service industries c) Analyse business practices and employee behaviour at global level in the context of the cultures of different international societies d) Analyse the significance of culture in consumer decision making and patterns of consumption for members of different international societies e) Critically appreciate methods for reconciling cultural differences in the Leisure sectors for the purpose of improved intercultural co-operation in organizations and in consumer – provider relationships. ii.
