Brief Description This module explores the relationships between transport, travel and tourism and seeks to develop a critical understanding of the issues associated with both managing transport for tourism, and ensuring this is done in a sustainable way.
Indicative Syllabus This module considers aspects of the sociology and anthropology of travel, for example, an examination of travel as a part of the holiday 'experience'. In addition, the focus is on assessing different modes of travel, for example, the airline sector and the cruise sector; and the contribution they make to the tourism industry. The concept of sustainable transport provision as a key element in developing sustainable tourism products is introduced.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this module students should be able to:
a) analyse the contribution of travel and transport to the tourism product.
b) analyse how the experience of travel and transport influences the supply of tourism services;
c) analyse and understand the different travel modes which require tourism management;
d) critically assess relevant policy and management structures that regulate and direct the transportation industry;
e) analyse the impacts associated with the development and use of transport and its infrastructures
