Brief Description | This module is designed to enable students to demonstrate their ability to review and evaluate learning processes and explicitly apply learning outcomes achieved in workplace settings and to critically reflect upon the impact that the learning opportunity has had upon their practice. The module recognises that learning takes place in a variety of settings and, via the development of an analytical and reflective approach, supports students to evidence and critically appraise the relationship between their practice and the relevant underpinning and/or emerging theory, and in doing so demonstrate their ability as a reflective practitioner. |
Indicative Syllabus | The specific details of this module will be approved on an individual basis but the following topics will be covered during workshops and tutorials: a) The significance and value of workplace learning opportunities for practice. b) The process and practice of evaluating the quality of learning opportunities. c) The critical evaluation of learning from practice using a reflective process. d) The relationship and reflective integration of theory and practice in the development of work-based processes, models or systems. e) Portfolio construction and their use in demonstrating application of workplace learning. |
Learning Outcomes | On successful completion of the module the student should be able to: 1) Critically evaluate the learning opportunities available and their application and development within workplace settings. 2) Critically reflect on personal learning opportunities within the workplace and evaluate their relationship to professional development. 3) Critically reflect on their ability to apply learning and the underpinning theory within workplace settings and evaluate the impact on practice, proposing and justifying areas for further development. 4) Demonstrate that they can operate in complex and specialised contexts and have the ability to successfully apply transferable skills to different workplace settings. 5) Demonstrate reflective writing and portfolio development skills. |
Learning and Teaching Activities | Staff/student contact: 10% Student directed learning: 90% Total study time – 200 hours. The delivery will depend on the individual student's programme of study but may include:- Workshops; Advisory tutorials; Learning sets; Independent work |
