Brief Description This module critically examines key issues that are pertinent to practice, research and development in the sport and exercise sciences. Students will be expected to draw on the knowledge and skills they have gained earlier in the course as they debate important issues within sport and exercise. The module intends to place sport and exercise science graduates in a position to make a meaningful contribution to practice in the sport and exercise sciences.
Indicative Syllabus This module will provide a critical awareness of the world of sport and exercise as is current at the time of completion of the module. Topical and contentious issues will be tackled in a provocative and discursive way. Areas of policy and practice will be critically considered. Examples in sport performance and exercise for health will be given equal attention.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) argue the case for a sport and exercise science support programme based on theoretical discipline based knowledge;
b) critically evaluate evidence-based interventions in sport and exercise science;
c) critically debate the major contemporary issues within sport and exercise;
d) assess the implications of these contemporary issues for the sport and exercise community.
