Brief Description	This module provides an opportunity for students to develop their practice based learning and experience, and to relate their academic studies to practice. In this module, students will be required to apply for their placement. Students will normally be engaged in substantive placements that comprise 70 hours work or community based experience (there may be some variation depending on the nature and detail of the placement). The placement can either be established through an opportunity presented to the course cohort for application, or it may be established by the student through independent study following successful negotiation with the Course Leader. Criminal Records Bureau clearance will be required.
Indicative Syllabus	The exact content and assessment of the module will depend on the nature of the placement. However, a particular focus of the experience will be the development of the student’s ability to engage in reflective practice and to develop and maintain personal development plans and portfolios.
Learning Outcomes	i. Knowledge and understanding On successful completion of the module the student should be able to: a) Successfully complete a substantive voluntary community or work based placement; b) Reflect on their experience and evaluate the work they have been undertaking within the context of the relevant sector; c) Demonstrate a clear understanding of the structure, and aims & objectives of the agency they have been working with, and the intended impact this has in the context of sector objectives; d) Reflect on the skills and knowledge required in order to effectively execute job roles within the agency where they have been working; e) Reflect on the skills and competencies required with regard to future employability in the field. ii. Skills The module will assist the student in the development of the following: Transferable skills: a) Independent learning and working b) Working with others c) Personal action planning for future development Subject specific skills: a) Problem solving in the context of the practice setting
