Brief Description This module will provide an opportunity for students to develop the ability to examine sport and exercise challenges and problems from a critical perspective. The applied nature of this module will enable students to understand and evaluate how exercise is used in health care provision as prevention, treatment, or as an adjunct to treatment, and how sport science is used in performance enhancement. Students will learn to apply sport and exercise science discipline knowledge and skills in an integrated way.
Indicative Syllabus This module will examine the application of discipline based knowledge to sport and exercise practice. It will increase students' awareness of the role of sport and exercise within various health and sport settings in the UK. A patient/client and athlete centred approach will provide examples from various health and sport settings.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) identify the role of the sport and exercise scientist within multidisciplinary applied settings;
b) outline the range of health care contexts where exercise is used and endorsed through policy and practice;
c) evaluate the role of sport science disciplines in sport or sport performer support;
d) analyse a range of current practices in sport and exercise in terms of process and outcomes.
