Brief Description This module builds on the knowledge and experiences gained in SPX111 Sport and exercise placement I. It provides a practical introduction to community based sports development and forms part of an inter-related set of vocational modules that provide students with the experience of planning, implementing, evaluating and reflecting on a community sports development project.
Indicative Syllabus

The module introduces and examines the knowledge, key concepts and practices that underpin effective community business management and community sports development and provides students with experience in the planning, implementation and evaluation of a ‘real world’ community sports project.  Topics covered include examination of various models of sports development planning, marketing, finance, operational management and evaluation.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and understanding
On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:
a) Analyse, evaluate and apply the core components of effective project planning, management, delivery and evaluation;
b) Display critical awareness of the underlying principles of contemporary sports development practice;
c) Engage with, and demonstrate in practice, a critical awareness of democratic processes within contemporary sports organisations;
d) Apply the core components of effective reflective learning;
e) Develop knowledge and understanding of the event planning process and utilise the knowledge by applying it to a ‘real world sports development project.



ii. Skills
The learning activities associated with this module are intended to develop the following skills:
Transferable skills:
a) working with others;
b) communication and literacy;
c) problem-solving;
d) creative.

Subject specific skills:
a) Undertake the planning, delivery and evaluation of a ‘real world’ sports development project
b) Identify and analyse possible problems within the context of a sports event and propose strategies to minimise associated risks.
