Brief Description This module is designed to analyse the claims made for sport in the context of the social inclusion agenda based on sport policy frameworks both historic and modern. The module extends the sociological investigation introduced and developed in SPX103 and SPV203 to explore the concept of social inclusion and the potential impact that sport and physical activity may have in combating social exclusion.
Indicative Syllabus

The module builds on the 1999 Policy Action Team 10 report (SEU/DCMS) to develop an analysis in this framework, including the contribution that sport and physical activity may have in terms of Health, Anti-social behaviour, Education, and Regeneration in [particularly] the UKcontext.  In doing so, students will explore barriers and facilitators in sports participation, social inclusion and modern sport policy, sport devolution & modernisation, and monitoring, evaluation and evidence.
