Brief Description The module will consider the analysis of sports performance, with particular emphasis on technique analysis and notation analysis. The underpinning rational for the use of systematic observation techniques in the analysis of sports performance is evaluated, and issues of validity and reliability are also considered prior to a focus on the practical application of technique analysis and notation analysis models. This module prepares individuals for pursuing a career in applied sport, either as a practitioner or as an administrator.
Indicative Syllabus This student will consider the analysis of sports performance, technique analysis, notational analysis and the practical application of technique analysis models.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) outline and evaluate the models for the technique analysis of sport skills;
b) conduct a technique analysis of a selected sports skill;
c) appreciate and evaluate the basic principles of notation analysis;
d) devise a system using the latest performance analysis software and process the data for a chosen sport.

ii. Skills
The learning activities associated with this module are intended to develop the following:

Transferable skills:
a) communication and literacy;
b) application of numerical techniques;
c) independent learning and working;
d) use of information and communication technology.

Subject specific skills
a) develop practical notation systems for use in a sporting context;
b) assess the accuracy and precision of data generated by a notation system;
c) present information at the required level for an appropriate target audience.
