Brief Description This module will consider the psychological influences on sports performance. Students will develop an understanding of key psychological theories which are at play in the sporting environment. Students will also be encouraged to apply theoretical knowledge to determine how behaviour may be influenced in order to enhance sport experience. This module is recommended for any student with an interest in sports performance. The module draws on knowledge and skills developed in SPX109.
Indicative Syllabus The student will consider, understand, analyse and apply key contemporary psychological topics associated with the enhancement of sports performance.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) critically consider and analyse the key theories which help to explain and predict behaviour in the sporting environment;
b) appreciate how key theories may be tested within the sporting context;
c) apply the key theories to varied sporting contexts and situations.



i. Skills
The learning activities associated with this module are intended to develop the following:

Transferable skills:
a) communication and literacy;
b) application of numerical techniques;
c) working with others.

Subject specific skills.
a) application of psychological theory within a sports performance context;
b) generating a ‘conference’ style poster.

002: 60% Written Exam: End of year, unseen, closed book: 2.00 hours
