Brief Description An understanding of the biomechanical principles underpinning human movement is a basic requirement for the coach / teacher, performer, and sport and exercise scientist. This module will develop synthesis and application of concepts relating to human movement.
Indicative Syllabus The module content includes: muscle mechanics; electromyography; isokinetic dynamometry; 2-dimensional kinematic analysis; projectile motion; and transfer of momentum.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) apply basic theory of linear and angular mechanics to human movement;
b) demonstrate an awareness of the techniques used in a biomechanics laboratory to investigate human movement;
c) interpret the findings of a laboratory based investigation.

ii. Skills
The learning activities associated with this module are intended to develop the following:

Transferable skills
a) application of numerical techniques;
b) problem solving;
