Brief Description The ability to apply knowledge and skills to address sporting challenges is important when working in a sport performance setting. This module encourages students to apply sport science discipline knowledge and skills to various sporting case studies in an integrated way. The module is essential for any student studying Sport Science. It extends the knowledge and skills developed within SPS101, and provides a basis for applied work at Level III.
Indicative Syllabus The module content will allow the student to examine how each sport science discipline can be applied to provide sport science support for performers. In particular, students will be encouraged to critically evaluate and apply detailed knowledge from one discipline of sport science, in order to enhance performance standards within a specific sporting case study.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) appraise the supporting role that each sport science discipline can provide for a sports performer;
b) evaluate the potential impact of sport science support for performers in a range of sporting contexts;
c) apply detailed knowledge from one sports science discipline to enhance sporting performance within a specific sport setting.



ii. Skills
The learning activities associated with this module are intended to develop the following:

Transferable skills:
a) problem solving;
b) communication and literacy;
c) independent learning and working.

Subject specific skills:
a) apply discipline based knowledge to address the needs of a sport or sport performer;
b) present orally to a client group using appropriate terminology.
