Brief Description A critical evaluation of instructional models in Physical Education and how these models are situated in relation to learning. The module debates the application of pedagogical practice in promoting affective, psychomotor, and cognitive learning outcomes. Furthermore it debates the role and value of assessment for learning.
Indicative Syllabus The module will focus on different examples of models of teaching such as ‘Sports Education’ and ‘Games for Understanding’ and their impact on learning. The experiential basis of the module will be through indicative content which will examine learning across the key stages, including14-19 curriculum. It will illustrate how assessment is used to inform learning and teaching.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) assess a variety of instructional models in Physical Education
b) critically evaluate the impact of teaching on learning
c) determine different teaching approaches for pupils 11-19
d) evaluate different assessment techniques and their impact on learning
