Brief Description This module raises awareness of contemporary issues in Physical Education. Students are invited to critically reflect upon their own pedagogical values and practice in relation to broader developments within the profession of Physical Education. This module is essential for those students intending to pursue a career in teaching.
Indicative Syllabus The module is designed to problematise key areas of current professional practice in physical education. Drawing on recent research, and situating traditional debates in contemporary contexts, it addresses key topics within the subject. This module will explore the direct and indirect influences of central government, local education authorities, schools, departments and teachers in the development of policy and practice in Physical Education in relation to these key topics.
Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) Demonstrate a coherent position on controversial issues in Physical Education
b) Develop a rationale for professional practice
c) Critically appraise current issues and controversies related to the application of Physical Education
