Brief Description This module will investigate the role of coaching in the community and analyse the function of the different partners involved in the delivery of coaching in a community context. The module will investigate how government policy is implemented in relation to the provision of coaching at a community level and will critically analyse the success of such initiatives.
Indicative Syllabus

This module will investigate the needs for sports coaching within communities and will analyse how successful government initiatives and a range of partners have been at delivering these needs. The needs of the community will be studied to investigate whether there has been:

  • an increase in the number of qualified coaches employed at a local level
  • quality standards for the recruitment, employment, management and development of coaches;
  • managed, quality continuous professional development support for employed coaches; and
  • high-quality coaching with a focus on young people.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and understanding
On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
a) Critically analyse the needs of communities within a sports coaching context
b) Evaluate the number of qualified coaches employed at a local level
c) Critically analyse the quality standards for the recruitment, employment, management and development of coaches
d) Analyse and evaluate the provision of quality continuous professional development support for employed coaches
