Brief Description | This module considers the structure of, and issues facing, community based deliverers of sport and physical activity in a contemporary context. It will explore the aims and objectives of these organisations and how different management approaches (traditional voluntary structures / Social Enterprise etc) may impact upon these issues. Crucially it will include the role and nature of partnership working as part of the organisation and delivery of these clubs and organisations |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will consider an overview of community-based sports and / or physical activity organisations. It will examine the aims and objectives for sport, organisations and their environment, and the role of partnership and partnership development in supporting organisations. It will also investigate the structure and management in community organisations (voluntary / social enterprise / charity / private sector etc) |
Learning Outcomes | On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the structure of organisations involved in the delivery of sport and physical activity in the community 2. Critically explore the range of factors which impact on the ability of community based organisations to successfully deliver opportunities in their community 3. Critically evaluate initiatives for promoting participation in sport, in particular the use of multi-agency approaches 4. Assess the effectiveness of a range of providers in promoting sport in community settings. |
