Brief Description

This module will advance technical knowledge in dance through experiential and applied learning in the practical dance create imaginative, appropriate movement material for young dancers; current practice, policies, legal compliance and professional conduct will be explored

 

This module is recommended for students wishing to pursue a career in teaching or performing arts. This module will also develop knowledge of safe dance practice in school and community settings, whilst providing an exploration of different delivery methods of this activity area.

 

This module is Category A under the University's Active Engagement in Learning Scheme. This means that absence from specified sessions will result in loss of marks (5% from the final module mark for each occasion of non-attendance).

Indicative Syllabus

Theory lectures and practical activity. Artistic and aesthetic intention; Dance styles European and American choreographers; reflection on different social contexts; choreography and performance of dances; debate on the relationships between style and choreographer; critical reflection on the teaching of dance and composite elements of performing, composing and appreciating dance.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

 

1.    Design and deliver appropriate, imaginative and informed translation of ideas into dance material for young people.

2.    Knowledge of dance teaching and learning strategy, policy, practice and structures

3.    Knowledge and understanding of safe and effective teaching and learning in dance

4.    Knowledge and understanding of legal compliance and policy issues affecting teaching and learning in dance

5.    Knowledge and understanding of professional conduct in dance teaching and learning contexts.

Assessment (For further details see the Module Guide) 001: 30% Coursework: Individual, presentation: 10 Minute presentation.
002: 30% Coursework: Group work, presentation: 20 Minute presentation.
003: 40% Coursework: Individual, standard written: 1500 Words.
