Brief Description | This module develops critical evaluation of instructional models in Physical Education in Primary Schools. Though experiential and applied learning in Primary schools, it will advance pedagogical knowledge and develop understanding of the primary school learner. It offers a rationale for the importance of PE as part of children’s learning including an exploration of current agendas and issues including the Primary National Strategy. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will focus on different examples of models of teaching in Primary Schools in an applied setting. It will provide examples of a range of physical education and physical activity content illustrating effective planning, teaching and assessment within a primary school setting. Contemporary debates, relevant research and issues with Primary Physical Education will be explored and discussed. Important health and safety considerations associated with good practice will also be addressed. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of scientific disciplines and pedagogy underpinning primary education; 2. Critically evaluate a range of educationally-focused sources of information and interpret their impact on a primary school setting 3. Evaluate different assessment techniques and their impact on learning for the primary school learner 4. Demonstrate appropriate professional standards within a sport education setting 5.
