Brief Description | This module aims to develop the student's knowledge and understanding of current concepts, trends and research findings pertinent to inclusive physical activity. It will examine the concepts of equity, equality and inclusion in physical education and sport and the influence of various values and interests in society on these principles. Contemporary policies and practices in physical education and sport will be analysed. Specific strategies for developing inclusive practice in a physical education and sport setting will be introduced. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will introduce and examine the concept of inclusive physical activity and the responsibility of practitioners to provide physical activity programmes that meet the needs of all individuals. Various dimensions of inclusion will be introduced and analysed - ability, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, disability and social class. A range of social inclusion challenges that might be faced by practitioners today will be examined and analysed in relationship to the principles of equity, equality of opportunity, pedagogy, curriculum planning and cultural awareness. |
