Brief Description | This module aims to enhance subject knowledge in aquatic activities through practical experiential learning. The module will enhance the ability of students to relate subject knowledge to groups of learners through the selection, delivery and evaluation of appropriate aquatic activities in a safe learning environment. It will enhance the ability of students to analyse and synthesise appropriate subject knowledge for the teaching of aquatic activities.
This module is Category A under the University's Active Engagement in Learning Scheme. This means that absence from specified sessions will result in loss of marks (5% from the final module mark for each occasion of non-attendance). |
Indicative Syllabus | This module involves aquatic activities and is likely to include: aqua aerobics, lifesaving and the analysis of a range of recognised strokes with scientific underpinning of resistance, buoyancy and propulsion through theoretical and practical lectures. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. Relate and apply the analysis of scientific principles and pedagogy to aquatic performance 2. Create innovative approaches to planning differentiation in aquatics teaching and learning experiences 3. Reflect and apply technical knowledge for the analysis of their own and others’ practical delivery 4. Work responsibly in a swimming pool educational setting, recognising health and safety and boundaries of professional competence 5. Demonstrate appropriate professional standards within a swimming pool education setting Communicate effectively in a swimming pool educational setting and in both written and oral formats |
