Brief Description | A critical evaluation of instructional models in Physical Education and how these models are situated in relation to learning. The module debates the application of pedagogical practice in promoting affective, psychomotor, and cognitive learning outcomes. Furthermore it debates the role and value of active learning and situated learning. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module will focus on different examples of models of teaching such as situated and active learning. The experiential basis of the module will be through indicative content which will examine learning theory elements of PE across the key stages and is likely to include the 14-19 Physical Education curriculum and classroom practice. It will illustrate how assessment is used to inform teaching and learning, as well as raise standards for learners working in varying educational contexts. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of scientific disciplines and pedagogy underpinning education; 2. Critically evaluate a range of educationally-focused sources of information and interpret their impact on a sports education setting, specifically though innovative approaches. 3. Evaluate different assessment techniques and their impact on learning. 4. Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats and apply numerical techniques; Use a range of information & communications technologies. |
