Brief Description

This module will enable students to develop a critical awareness of the relationship between physical activity and health, and specifically, the promotion of active lifestyles across the lifecourse. Students will have the opportunity to draw on their discipline and course-based knowledge and experiences from Levels 4 and 5 to critique the contemporary nature of professional physical activity practice at the point of module delivery.

Indicative Syllabus

This module provides an insight into contemporary practices in physical activity for health, and examines physical activity promotion and provision across the lifecourse. The syllabus will be specific to the professional climate at the time of delivery and is likely to examine physical activity practices via PE, community contexts and organisations. There will be a focus on physical activity promotion and provision with various sub-groups of the population from early years to older adults. In doing so, the role of the practitioner in these contexts will also be analysed. Specific policies, theories and concepts pertinent to physical activity engagement will underpin the module throughout, and a critical awareness of topical and contentious issues will be encouraged through analysis and debate.
