SP6005: Biomechanics of Human Movement II

Module Title Biomechanics of Human Movement II
Module Code SP6005
Module Tutor Martine Deighan
School Sport and Exercise
CAT Points 15
Level of Study 6
Pre-requisites Before taking this module you must pass SP5006
Co-requisites None
Restrictions Cannot be taken with SPS302
Brief Description

This module focuses on the application of biomechanics to sport and exercise. This laboratory-based module focuses on the methods of kinetic and kinematic analysis and how they can be used to analyse sports techniques and optimise human movement.

Indicative Syllabus

The indicative content of the module is predominantly laboratory-based and will develop the students? analytical skills in the following biomechanical techniques: 2-D and 3-D motion analysis, force platform & pressure systems, isokinetic dynamometry, and electromyography.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Evaluate critically selected sporting skills using mechanical theories;
  2. Apply accurately and appropriately experimental protocols used in a biomechanics laboratory to investigate sport and exercise techniques
  3. Analyse critically the findings of a laboratory based investigation, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on those findings.
