Brief Description | This module aims to further develop the practical sports leadership and coaching skills introduced at level 4 and apply them to practical coaching experiences in the community. Students will plan and undertake practical coaching activities both as an individual and in a group setting. The practical aspect ensures that students appreciate and are able to reflect upon the many skills required to become an effective community coach. Students will also build on their knowledge and skills for developing a fitness programme for a selected group of participants. |
Indicative Syllabus | Students will be involved in the practical challenges of planning and delivering coaching practices for a variety of participants in different sporting contexts. The practical content of this module reinforces and extends knowledge of how to design, plan and lead effective and purposeful coaching sessions. Students will study theory of coaching approaches and styles and their impact on the learner; coaching ethics, the importance of evaluation and reflection for coaches’ learning; psychological, physiological and sociological factors that influence performance; and the use of feedback for improving performance. Students will also build on level 4 content studying principles of developing fitness, models of athletic performance and fitness requirements for a range of sports. |
