Brief Description

This module aims to develop the employability skills concepts previously introduced at level four.  Students will be encouraged to actively engage with learning in the workplace advancing their knowledge, experience, expertise and skills within their chosen career path through a blended method of learning; lectures, experiential learning, placement supervisor feedback and personal reflection. In addition to the experiential element of this module, students will study theories and concepts for developing their reflective learning, and sports marketing abilities to compliment the range of skills they can offer current placement providers and future employers.

Indicative Syllabus
  1. Processes and application of reflective practice, studying a range of reflective theories and skills for continued life-long learning. 
  2. Career development planning; preparing for a career in sport.
  3. Participation trends, sectors of sports provision, organisation and funding and commercial considerations. 
  4. Promotion and retention of customers or participants; regulations and legal responsibilities of sport and leisure services.

In order to provide a context for the academic study elements students will be required to engage in a two semester sports placement.  

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

  1. Demonstrate evidence of continuing learning and personal and professional development;
  2. Reflect on and evaluate the learning opportunities provided by the placement provider/employer or initiated by the student;
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how academic theory informs practice by providing relevant and appropriate examples of application in the work-place;

Demonstrate research and evaluative skills by justifying the selection of physical activity (related to fitness and/or sport) for promotion by either the students’ sports placement provider or a potential employer;
