Brief Description

This module provides an opportunity for students to develop their practice based learning and experience, to relate their academic studies to practice, and to develop key skills and experiences relating to future employment. Students will normally be engaged in placements that comprise 70 hours work or experience (there may be some variation depending on the nature and detail of the placement). The placement can either be established through an opportunity presented to the course cohort for application, or it may be established through negotiation between the student, the Module Tutor and the Placement Office. Criminal Records Bureau clearance will be required.

Indicative Syllabus

 

1.     The student will complete their placement hours over a period of time agreed with the placement provider.

2.     There will be a number of lectures delivered at the start of the year to support the student in establishing their placement, and in preparing for the assessment tasks.

3.     Each student will identify, or be allocated, a member of university academic staff who will act as their placement supervisor, providing support and guidance when required

Assessment tasks will include study and reflection on both the specific placement situation, and on more generic employment based skills

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module the student should be able to:

 

  1. Reflect on their experience and evaluate the work they have been undertaking within the context of the relevant sector;
  2. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the structure, and aims & objectives of the agency they have been working with, and the intended impact this has in the context of sector objectives
  3. Reflect on the skills and knowledge required in order to effectively execute job roles within the agency where they have been working
  4. Reflect on the skills and competencies required with regard to future employability in the field.
