Brief Description

The module will introduce students to a variety of key contemporary ethical issues in the area of sport.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will build upon students’ knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of sport in order to think critically about key ethical issues in sport. While the module is issue-driven it will also develop critical reasoning abilities that should extend to clear thinking about issues in sports generally. It will also introduce students to a range of normative ethical theories and meta-ethical questions.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

 

1.     demonstrate detailed knowledge of a range of ethical issues in sport;

2.     demonstrate an awareness of competing positions and arguments relating to ethical issues in sport;

3.     evaluate opposing arguments in the light of wider research in the area and informed from their own understanding and knowledge of the issues in question
