Brief Description

This module will build upon level 4 experiences and further students knowledge relating to employability and  the necessary skills for a career in sports coaching or related environments. Students will apply and reflect upon the implementation of pedagogic theory in real world placements analysing both their and others coaching practice. Students will discuss and relate pertinent employability issues in relation to the coaching environment. Students will undertake a placement for a minimum of 70 hours.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will be required to plan, organise and engage in a two semester sports placement. Evidence of knowledge, learning and continuing personal and professional development will be provided in a reflective journal of the activities and interactions encountered by the students during the placement. Knowledge and understanding of how theories, concepts and pertinent legislation and policy from coaching will be demonstrated through reflection upon application in the workplace. Students will present reflections with a strong theoretical foundation.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to…:

·         Demonstrate evidence of personal development pertinent to employability skills and the role of reflection in the coaches’ development.

·         Recognise the relationship between continuing personal skills development and employability.

·         Demonstrate and apply knowledge of legislation and statutory responsibilities that relate to specific populations.
