Brief Description | This module will advance technical knowledge choreography through experiential and applied learning. It aims to develop an artistic and aesthetic understanding and critically analyses current influences in choreography, styles and choreographic trends. Innovative application of movement components and compositional devices will be researched and applied. Students will reflect upon and develop knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning choreography in dance for children and young people
This module is recommended for students wishing to pursue a career in teaching or performing arts. This module will also develop knowledge of safe dance practice, performing with others, awareness, and sensitivity.
This module is Category A under the University's Active Engagement in Learning Scheme. This means that absence from specified sessions will result in loss of marks (5% from the final module mark for each occasion of non-attendance). |
Indicative Syllabus | Through lectures and practical activity students will attend workshops that enable students to identify and explore a wide range of choreographic skills, combining theory with dance technique; the compositional outcomes will be delivered in as group performances. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:
· Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge of Laban’s principles of movement and choreographic · Knowledge and critical understanding of the principles and approaches to teaching and learning in dance · Understanding of the safe and effective planning, delivery and evaluation of teaching and learning in dance · Understanding of the management of the learning environment in dance · Understanding of inclusive teaching and learning environment Understanding of creative approaches to teaching and learning in dance. |
