Brief Description

This module will set out landscapes of leadership opportunities for young people. Students will review and reflect on their own and others leadership techniques and analyse programmes in formal and informal education settings. Furthermore the module aims to develop an understanding of the value of leadership as an opportunity to develop lifelong learning skills in young people.

 

This module is recommended for students wishing to pursue a career working with young people in formal and informal education settings. It will allow them to build on knowledge, skills and understanding of pedagogy in practice. This module will also develop knowledge of policy, concepts and frameworks a sports educator will be required to understand.

Indicative Syllabus

The module involves analysis of leadership concepts and skills, through self-reflection and review of current practice in sport and physical education. Through the study of literature and local practice, students will evaluate leadership as an additional opportunity for young people, as an embedded topic in NCPE and as a discreet theme across subject areas and activities. Concepts such as the Sports Education Model, Young Apprentice, Leadership Awards, Volunteering and National governing Body Awards will also be explored.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

 

·         Assess the implications of current policy and initiatives for the Sports Education practitioner.

·         Evaluate concepts, frameworks and theories relating to education;

·         Analyse current practice in sport and physical education settings;

·         Reflect on and analyse their own and others’ practice

·         Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats;

002: 50% Coursework: Group work, presentation: 30 Minute Presentation.
