Brief Description

This module examines the fundamental concepts of growth and development through a life-span approach, and to develop the knowledge required to develop motor skill proficiency in learners, with particular emphasis on children and young people.

Indicative Syllabus

This module examines and enhances the knowledge required to understand the components of growth, development and motor skill.  Topics covered include: physical growth, development, maturation, aging, motor development, movement control, motor learning and motor skill

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

·         Consider the scientific principles of growth, maturation and aging

·         Consider the key principles of physical development in relation to exercise when generating and reporting knowledge

·         Demonstrate awareness of a range of motor behaviour and

development issues and interpret their impact on a sports education setting

·         Communicate effectively an understanding of individual differences and limitations on motor learning and performance

·         Apply numerical techniques when applying scientific principles;

Use a range of information and communications technologies when communicating and reporting knowledge
