Available to those students studying Sports/Dance Education or Sports Coaching as any part of their course.

Brief Description

The module focuses on the learner and will build upon the knowledge and awareness of content delivered in SPE403.

 

The module aims to develop the student’s ability to create their own personal teaching philosophy and pedagogy. Students will be required to plan, teach, and evaluate effective teaching.

 

Students will learn how to make effective personalised provision for those they teach and how to take account of diversity and promote equality and inclusion in their teaching.

 

Module content will offer opportunities for students to reflect on different teaching and learning models and debate how they can help meet the teaching and learning requirements of the National Curriculum. This module is essential for those students intending to pursue a career in teaching.

 

This module is Category A under the University's Active Engagement in Learning Scheme. This means that absence from specified sessions will result in loss of marks (5% from the final module mark for each occasion of non-attendance).

Indicative Syllabus

The content focuses on the learner and educates students on how to plan, teach and evaluate personalised learning objectives and outcomes.

 

Students will learn the various factors a teacher must consider before, during and after a lesson such as National Curriculum planning, teaching models, learning theories, teaching styles, differentiation and assessment.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to;

 

  • Have detailed knowledge of scientific disciplines and pedagogy underpinning education
  • Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of teaching and learning based knowledge and underpin it with an evidence based approach to practice
  • Plan, deliver and analyse performance of practical sessions and suggest improvements
  • Communicate effectively in a range of situations and audiences in an educational setting
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats

002: 60% Coursework: Individual, standard written: 2500 Words.
