Brief Description

The module aims to equip the students with the necessary skills to create effective, individualised exercise programmes. The module will  explore the planning of progressive exercise programmes to meet the needs of clients. The module aims to give students the skills and knowledge required to operate safely and successfully as a Personal Trainer. There is an option to an undertake industry recognised Personal Training award (recognised by the Register of Exercise Professionals) alongside this module (additional certification fee will be payable).

Indicative Syllabus

The indicative content of this module will include: business and marketing for the fitness professional; principles of nutrition; exercise programming; delivering personal training sessions; and client retention.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the needs of a client and design and appropriate exercise programme;
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of a gym-based exercise programme;
  3. Demonstrate a clear and detailed understanding of the process involved with developing a successful personal training service;
  4. Understand in detail personal responsibility and professional codes of conduct
