Brief Description

Students will learn how to apply the science of training methodology for the improvement of all components of fitness, including; strength, speed, agility, plyometrics, endurance and flexibility sessions. Specific focus will be given to learning the techniques of weightlifting exercises, and speed, agility and plyometric performance.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will learn how to apply the science of training methodology for the improvement of all components of fitness, including; strength, speed, agility, plyometrics, endurance and flexibility sessions. Specific focus will be given to learning the techniques of weightlifting exercises, and speed, agility and plyometric performance.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate and coach key exercise techniques inherent to strength, power, speed and agility development
  2. Identify, interpret and correct common kinesiological errors during core strength and conditioning skills for performance enhancement
  3. Demonstrate and apply coaching theories and communication techniques for effective delivery of information
  4. Apply the theory of strength and conditioning to practical development of individual sessions
  5. Demonstrate risk assessment, health and safety and emergency procedures in the strength and conditioning environment
  6. Apply the skill acquisition, strength and conditioning and sport specific literature in relation to coaching athletes
