Brief Description

An understanding of the biomechanical principles underpinning human movement is a basic requirement for the coach / teacher, performer, therapist and sport and exercise scientist. This module will develop biomechanical laboratory skills and an understanding of biomechanical concepts relating to human movement.

Indicative Syllabus

The indicative content of the module will include: muscle mechanics; electromyography; isokinetic dynamometry; 2-dimensional kinematic analysis; projectile motion; kinematic analysis using a force platform and transfer of momentum.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Apply biomechanical concepts to solve sport and exercise problems
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques used in a biomechanics laboratory to investigate human movement
  3. Process and interpret the findings of a laboratory based investigation
  4. Communicate effectively the findings of a laboratory based investigation in a laboratory report format.
