Brief Description | This module will extend students enquiry-based skills to enable a meaningful interaction with real world research. Students will be challenged to consider their beliefs and assumptions relating to the purpose and nature of research in their area of study. Students will be introduced, through a range of problem-based approaches, to the development of research aims, potential data collection techniques applicable within their field, and the analysis of trustworthy data / information. Students will also engage with an extensive and analytical review of literature in a chosen topic area. Fundamental understanding of the principles of enquiry relating to qualitative and quantitative research design, planning and ethics will also be explored. |
Indicative Syllabus | The indication content of the module will include: exploring knowledge, and the purposes / value of research; developing appropriate research design and developing research questions examining ethical issues in research; consideration of appropriate data collection and analysis techniques; planning research projects through a critical literature research process. |
