Brief Description

This module will introduce students to the concept of employability and aims to develop necessary skills for a career in the sport and fitness industry. Opportunities will be provided for students to undertake vocational training before undertaking a sports placement.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will provide students with the theoretical underpinning necessary to understand the value of skills development and its relevance to their professional development. It will provide opportunities for students to meet a range of sports industry employers and in preparation for their sports placements students will undertake vocational training (e.g. emergency first aid, child protection and health and safety). Students will be encouraged to reflect on the challenges encountered throughout the module and placement experience and their personal strengths in this respect. This module will introduce students to Personal Development Planning (PDP) and the concept of life-long learning and skills development.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

  1. Demonstrate evidence of skill development (e.g. vocational training or qualifications)
  2. Recognise the relationship between skills development and employability. 
  3. Evaluate his or her performance during the sport placement and identify key learning opportunities that occurred. 
  4. Demonstrate understanding of what skills, qualities and qualifications are required by employers in the student's chosen specialist area of the sports industry.

Reflect on his or her employment prospects for the future and formulate a range of appropriate action points.
