Brief Description

This module provides an introduction to practice based learning and experience within the sport and exercise field. Placements will normally comprise 25 hours experience and will typically be located in one of the following environments: local authority sports development projects; sports clubs; neighbourhood and community settings; after school / extracurricular settings; National Governing Body; or County Sports Partnership programmes. Criminal Records Bureau clearance will be required.

Indicative Syllabus

The content of the module will depend on the nature of the placement. The module will be in two parts, a training element (approximately 6 weeks) and then a placement element (25 hours). There may be some variation in the placement element depending on the nature of the placement opportunity.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

a) Successfully complete a community or work based placement;

b) Reflect on their experience and relate the placement to the broad objectives of the sector;

c) Demonstrate and understand the behaviours and attitudes appropriate in the workplace;

d) Relate the experience to the context of their academic course;

e) Appreciate the relationship between skills acquisition and future employability.
