Brief Description | This module will advance technical knowledge in dance through experiential and applied learning in the practical dance technique class. Awareness of the dancer as performer, knowledge and understanding of the demands made in practice and performance on the dancer will also be explored
This module is recommended for students wishing to pursue a career in teaching or performing arts. This module will also develop knowledge of safe dance practice, performing with others, awareness, and sensitivity.
This module is Category A under the University's Active Engagement in Learning Scheme. This means that absence from specified sessions will result in loss of marks (5% from the final module mark for each occasion of non-attendance). |
Indicative Syllabus | Dance Technical classes (for example: ballet, contemporary, jazz, street, pilates) will provide students will a depth of practice in a range of styles. Knowledge and understanding of correct alignment, posture, fitness components, performance and expressive skills will be developed and evaluated throughout the module. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:
· Demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of the principles and approaches to teaching and learning in dance · Demonstrate advanced appreciation of artistic intention and aesthetic movement in the interpretation of specific styles and techniques · Analyse safe dance practice for a dancer’s body and the management of the learning environment in dance. · Perform and interpret dance ideas, through solo and group performance, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate technical and expressive skills. · Reflect on own practice. Apply teaching and learning-based knowledge to underpin an evidence based approach to safe dance practice; |
