Brief Description

The module aims to give students a core understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the major systems of the body which students can develop on in level 5. The module will help students appreciate the inter-relationship between body systems to maintain homeostasis at both rest and during acute exercise.

Indicative Syllabus

The indicative content of the module will include: the structure and function of the circulatory system; respiratory system; skeletal system; muscular system and nervous system.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Describe the major physiological systems;
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the interaction of body systems;
  3. Explain the effects of acute exercise on the body;
  4. Communicate effectively using appropriate terminology.
