Brief Description

This module aims to provide students with an introduction to the area of health and fitness. Students will be encouraged to analyse the relationship between exercise, physical activity, health and fitness, along with the key components of health-related and skill-related fitness. The module will go on to examine the expanding and changing role of the fitness industry.

Indicative Syllabus

The indicative content of the module will include: The components of fitness, exercise provision, trends and developments in the fitness industry, key organisations.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Express a broad understanding of and the relationship between the concepts of health, fitness and wellbeing
  2. Analyse current trends in health and fitness research and evaluate the application of this knowledge
  3. Outline the provision of both health and exercise provision in the public and private sector.
