Brief Description | This module aims to explore the work of sport and exercise scientists using a case study-based lecture programme. Sport and exercise science practice will be placed in the broader context to include the role of policy and organisations, including the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). This module will allow the student to examine the role and application of sport and exercise science disciplines through practical experience. Moreover, the student will be required to complete supervised investigations which examine the potential impact of each sport and exercise science discipline on sporting performance and physical activity behaviour. |
Indicative Syllabus | The indicative content of the module will include the examination of the relationship between the sport and exercise science disciplines and their representation within the BASES structure; application of sport and exercise science disciplines to practice-based challenges; health promotion – patient and practitioner perspectives, community groups and partnership working; sport science support in relation to coaching and performance; the influence of biomechanical, physiological, psychological, sociological and philosophical factors on practical sporting performance, exercise and physical activity. |
